God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.

1 John 4:9 NLT

Have you ever found yourself stressing over gift giving? What if I don’t pick the right one? What if they don’t appreciate it? What if they “misuse” it, or even re-gift it?

Sometimes in our human nature, we can go into this process with unspoken expectations. Or we create a scenario in our head and feel like maybe there isn’t much point in picking a gift at all. We get so wrapped up in what the other person will think about it that we forget why we wanted to give them a gift in the first place. And if it’s something special to us (and the ONLY ONE we have) it’s even harder to want to give it up and know there’s a chance they won’t receive it or use it how we’d hoped. But this is the very thing that God did for us. He gave His most precious thing, His flesh and blood, His only one, as the sacrifice to bridge the gap so we could commune again with Him and live with Him for eternity.

Even as the scripture says “He gave…so that we might”. That’s a mighty big risk. God didn’t look at how we would receive this wonderful gift. He loved us so much regardless of what our choice would be, He had to share Jesus with us so we could have a chance. He loved us enough to risk it.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the priceless gift of Your Son, Jesus, and the love that You give us every day through Him. As we give this season, let us remember the heart posture with which You gave to us. And as we receive from others, may we focus on the love behind the gift. Amen.
